Cody Rhodes’ new WWE contract is a long-term deal that keeps him with the company into the 2030s.

During an appearance on the Flagrant podcast last week, Rhodes, 41, broke the news that he recently signed a new WWE contract. The terms were not disclosed then, but we now know that it was a new five-year deal that Rhodes signed. That was confirmed in a feature story the New York Times published today on Rhodes and Roman Reigns being part of the “Street Fighter” movie cast.

  • Reigns and Rhodes both said they counted [Dwayne] Johnson and [John] Cena as instrumental in helping their transition. Reigns appeared briefly with Johnson in a 2019 ‘Fast & Furious’ spinoff, a job he took so he could observe how Johnson operated on a set. Rhodes said Cena texted him that he was proud after seeing the AMC Theaters popcorn bucket shaped as Guile’s flattop.
  • But wrestling is still their day job. Rhodes recently signed a five-year contract extension with W.W.E., and Reigns wrestled at an event in New Orleans two days before the ‘Street Fighter’ premiere in Los Angeles.

Rhodes plays Guile and Reigns plays Akuma in the new “Street Fighter” film, which releases this Friday (October 16).

A five-year deal takes Rhodes to 2031, so this could end up being his last contract as a full-time wrestler. Rhodes told WrestleTalk that he’s “not going to be falling down for a living anymore” when his daughter turns 11, which would be in 2032.

Nick Khan on approving Hollywood roles —

In the New York Times story, WWE President Nick Khan said the company reviews film and television opportunities for its wrestlers on a case-by-case basis. He is broadly supportive of WWE talent pursuing these opportunities and feels it only helps grow their popularity.

Khan said:

  • If past is prologue, the bigger that these guys can become outside of the WWE, the bigger they become inside WWE — that’s good for everybody. Both [Rhodes and Reigns] have earned the right to do outside projects with WWE’s buy-in and support.

Biggest file in the book, and the file is the problem. They had Ospreay’s time off and the Wrestlepalooza matches. They also had Vaquer hurt when she said she was not. Almost half the items never finished, and the miss pile is larger than anyone else’s. A podcast aside is not a report. If another site turns that aside into a news item, the mark stays here only when the claim was theirs.
