Ilja Dragunov will be wrestling this Wednesday.
During the AEW WrestleDream media scrum, Tony Khan mentioned that Wednesday would be Dragunov’s in-ring debut. Dragunov liked the idea, setting the stage for his first match since April when he competed in the Andre the Giant battle royal prior to WrestleMania 42.
Dragunov made his AEW debut earlier in the night, being introduced as the latest signee to the company. Vignettes had been airing for his impending debut since Wednesday, when the first one aired featuring a wrestler training while a metronome played.
At the media scrum, Khan noted that Dragunov’s visa issues didn’t come together until Wednesday, and in fact made the decision to air the vignette during the live broadcast. When Dragunov said he would be coming to WrestleDream, the second vignette was posed on social media Friday, with AEW confirming that the mystery person would be making their debut the following day in Orlando.
Later in the scrum, Khan told Will Ospreay he would likely be in action, though it wasn’t made clear what type of match he would be in.
