Multiple WWE wrestlers have reportedly raised questions about the WWE ID program following the recent departures of Laynie Luck and Marcus Mathers.
Luck held the WWE Women’s ID Championship for 320 days before losing it to Monica Monroe on October 3. It was later revealed that her contract would not be renewed.
Similarly, Marcus Mathers announced Friday that his time with WWE ID had come to an end after nearly two years with the program. The 22-year-old is a regular for independent promotions including Game Changer Wrestling and Beyond Wrestling. He has also competed in Japan for Dragon Gate.
Fightful Select reported Friday that the departures have prompted questions about the program from multiple WWE wrestlers.
“Multiple WWE Superstars have questioned the WWE ID program following the departures of Laynie Luck and Marcus Mathers,@FightfulSelect has learned. The departures of the 320-day Women’s ID Champion and 22-year-old indie standout raised concerns internally.”
Questions about another WWE developmental program were raised in April following the release of Tyra Mae Steele, the women’s winner of the first season of WWE LFG. Bryan Alvarez reported at the time that people within NXT were questioning the purpose of the reality competition series following Steele’s departure.
“A lot of people in NXT questioning what the point of LFG is if they’re just going to cut the winner,” Alvarez wrote.
Fightful Select also reported Friday that Brooke Havok was at one point considered to defeat Luck for the WWE Women’s ID Championship. However, Havok suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in September.
