This past April’s WWE WrestleMania 42 brought in a total of $36 million at the box office for both nights, a major drop from the prior year.
Released via ticket industry publication Pollstar (via Wrestlenomics), night one (Saturday, April 18) brought in $17,441,679 on 45,215 tickets sold while night two (Sunday, April 19) did $18,558,414 on 48,158 tickets sold for totals of just over $36 million and 93,373 tickets sold.
While Wrestlenomics noted the gate numbers are in line with WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, the weekend was just over half the total revenue of WrestleMania 41 which did $66 million on 113,412 tickets sold. The ticket revenue was down 46% while the tickets sold difference was 18%.
Both 41 and 42 were held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, with this year’s show being moved from the original location of New Orleans.
Ticket sales going into the show were a big topic and one that even TKO officials had to address in various interviews, investor calls and appearances leading up to the event. The company discounted tickets several times and the sales even came up in the storyline involving Pat McAfee, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
WWE also took in over $10 million in “sponsor fees,” tax credits and other incentives from both the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development, an increase from the $5 million they got for WrestleMania 41. That dollar amount covered both nights of Mania, a minimum of 300,000 square feet of convention space for WWE World, and their on-site merchandise store plus visibility on WrestleMania ads, involvement in press & promotional events, a suite for both nights, ten daily tickets to WWE World, and 20 lower level tickets for Raw, SmackDown and NXT (even though NXT didn’t take place in Las Vegas during the week).
